FuelTech's IGN1A Smart inductive coils are the ideal choice for high-performance applications, such as racing. With energy up to 175 mJ and a long spark discharge duration of 3.2 ms, these coils ensure excellent idle characteristics and the power needed to handle engines with high combustion chamber pressures due to turbocharging, nitrous oxide injection, or extreme naturally aspirated applications.
The maximum dwell can reach 9 ms for short periods to extract maximum power from the coil under conditions of high boost pressure or heavy load. For normal driving conditions, a dwell of 5 ms is recommended.
With a dwell time of 9 ms, these coils draw 20 Amps each, sending a full 150 mA of current to the spark plug! At 5 ms, the draw is 8 Amps each; it is important to take this into account when sizing the vehicle's wiring.
