DESCRIPTION
The Haltech Boost Control solenoid allows the user to map boost pressure levels on turbocharged vehicles through the engine management system.
Haltech uses a highly durable short-stroke solenoid to increase valve durability, longevity, and, of course, precision. A high-force spring return is used to produce rapid valve closure and prevent the valves from popping open under high loads. The valve motion control map (Duty Cycle) is accessed via the ECU programming software. Increasing the duty cycle increases boost pressure, while lowering the duty cycle reduces boost pressure. The boost control feature allows for adjustment of boost response for different turbo sizes.
Depending on the ECU used, some people may want to use the gear-based boost control feature—this allows you to set separate boost levels at each RPM in each gear. One of the latest features is also the implementation of closed-loop boost control, where all you have to do is tell the ECU exactly what boost to deliver at each RPM, and the computer automatically calculates the boost control solenoid opening cycle. This feature takes into account changes in air temperature, barometric pressure, internal intercooler temperature, and any other unexpected factors that may affect incoming air temperatures and pressures.
